This is an excerpt from a conversation i had about developing a short film idea... I liked the way it sounded, so i thought i would just copy-paste it here.
i can give you some starter things to think about right now, i dont even need to know what your story is about for these questions
they apply to every story ever made
and every presentation or film
so dont respond, just have these guys in mind when you think about your idea
"why are you making this" --- you could just want to show off how cool a character is (Naruto doing a Rasengan!!)
"i want to show a triumphant moment"-- (a montage of Naruto training, and then learning the Rasengan!!)
"i want to show sadness and despair, i want the audience to FEEL something"-- (Naruto walking alone, in the shadow of his father and Pervvy Sage)
(Lots of naruto.. dont know why its in my head) BUT
basically, you need to figure out your motivation at some point, before you start to put your idea into a Presentation Format (IE a Film)
so i guess a good setup for a statement is, "I want the audience to feel ________"
this isnt the MOST important question, BUT it will influence ALL of your cinematic choices, it will funnel your film into a single direction, leading you that emotional payoff
all good films have an emotion at the center, especially short films, as they are directed mostly to a singular moment
---- end of convo (for nowwwww)
